On September 24th, the heart of San Francisco’s dining scene witnessed a landmark event — the launch of the first-ever Indian Restaurant Week at the iconic Taj Campton Place. This celebration brought together the artistry, heritage, and innovation of the city’s top Indian restaurants, creating a culinary moment that the Bay Area will remember for years to come.

Speaking on this event Pulkesin Mohan, General Manager Taj Campton Place said.

“This event will contribute to downtown SFO as three participating restaurants are around the Union Square. He also mentioned that this bi-annual event will give people a great opportunity to taste the festive food served for two Indian festivals Diwali & Holi.”

The founding restaurants — Bombay Brasserie, New Delhi Restaurant, Amber, Tiya, Rooh, and Copra — came together with a shared vision: to celebrate Diwali, spotlight the diversity of Indian cuisine, and showcase its growing influence on the San Francisco fine dining landscape. Each restaurant, led by its acclaimed chef, presented a unique interpretation of Indian flavors, blending tradition with modern techniques

The evening drew an impressive audience, including representatives from the Mayor’s Office, the Consul General of India, civic leaders, and some of San Francisco’s most notable personalities. Guests enjoyed an engaging panel discussion where the chefs shared their personal journeys, inspirations, and perspectives on Indian food culture in America. Hosted by local personality Vaskiniris, the conversation highlighted the power of food as a bridge between communities.

Adding to the recognition of the evening, the Mayor’s Office presented each chef with a Certificate of Appreciation, honoring their contributions to culinary excellence, cultural passion, and community spirit.

The highlight of the launch was the exclusive tasting menu created for the event. Attendees savored specially crafted small bites, offering a sneak peek into the dishes that will define Indian Restaurant Week. From elevated street food inspirations to refined fine-dining creations, each plate reflected the chefs’ artistry and the rich traditions of India.

This celebration couldn’t come at a better time. With California officially recognizing Diwali as a state holiday, the launch of Indian Restaurant Week in San Francisco marks the beginning of a new tradition — one that honors the festival of lights while highlighting the vibrancy and diversity of the city’s culinary scene.

For food lovers across the Bay Area, this is more than just a dining event. It is a movement to reinvigorate San Francisco’s heart, bringing together communities through the universal language of food.
